Road to Normal
District I was told was where the normal kids learn.
So I guess I wasn’t one them, it just wasn’t my turn.
As a kid I had some issues that hung over like a cloud
They’d make sad or angry, very silent or just loud.
All I ever wanted was to behave like a normal kid
Stuffed in this school for the handicapped I felt like I was hid
Kids would scream, fight and inflict pain on others and themselves
And I would be in there with them until I turned twelve.
At 10 I flipped out and made a terrible scene
Landed me in the hospitals to which I wasn’t keen.
Made up a lie that there were voices in my head.
It made worse and put me in a group home instead.
How was I supposed to know that lie would do me wrong?
It did the exact opposite and I was there for two years long.
We did countless chores and filled out a stupid check sheet.
Then off to bed at eight, just after something to eat.
On Fridays home to see the ones we love
But back on Sunday which in my heart took the strength out of.
As I looked out the window and watched Mom drive away
Crying I would say to myself “Only you can shorten your stay.”
So I buckled down and focused on behaving very well
I did all my chores, did not throw tantrums my anger I would quell
I did better in school; trying stand up as tall as I could
After two years the group home and my mother said it’s time to come home for good.
That summer I left for home to begin my life at “district” school.
I knew this was my new beginning it’s time for a fresh way to rule.
It some time to get adjusted but I’m so glad I made it there.
I found a lot of friends I call my brothers that I know will forever care.
I’m different now but still the same boy I was back then.
The boy whose heart was filled with love that put these words to pen.
The boy who sought to be normal but really always was
He just was little confused and misguided throwing off his cause
I look back and thank those who brought me to where I am today
My old school, the group home they all helped in their own magic way
Though one person gets most credit that always believed in me,
My mother, my goddess, my only queen bee, you I know I will forever and always love thee.
