The Road We Walk

The Road We Walk

Us humans,

We are sent on a winding path

To places we’d never imagine.

We don’t plan on taking it.

It just happens.

It’s the cruelty of fate.

Some people just stop moving,

Giving up on the journey.

Others lose themselves on the journey

Forced to start over.

Others…

Others keep on trudging through.

There are those of us that will keep on wondering forever.

There are those of us that stop their journey almost as soon as they start it.

I will keep moving.

I will not stop.

However, as I continue on this journey, I will make stops.

I have never stayed long.

But, one day, I hope to stay for the rest of my life.

That is the journey that we are sent on.

To make that lasting stop.

Sometimes, though, a force beyond ourselves sends us out.

Then we just keep on walking.

I am walking.

My feet are tired.

I want to stop.

But each time I want to just lie down and forget everything,

I am reminded.

Reminded of my past.

I look back to see the mistakes and trails in my life.

Going to see a midnight premier, or going to a middle school play.

Holding hands for the first time, or sending my first Valentine’s Day rose.

Losing someone I love,

And finding another to fill the whole.

I look back with a smile on my face.

It is because of these things that I keep on walking

With a purpose clear as day.

To find my heart’s true place;

The stop where I will always stay.
