This Road We Walk

Who Am I?

Am I this or am I that?

Many questions many answers

Where do I start?

From the mind or from the heart?

I am a child of six thrown into the mix where there was plenty of chaos and confusion even with that I was given a clear mind with no delusion or maybe that was just an illusion to hide the pain and sadness I saw every day in my life

I am a young boy from philly trying to explain to myself really how these things could happen to me and was I the only one

I am a young boy who watched his mother go into the bathroom and come out a different person. A person who was hurting a person who was possessed by the power of something that looked like sugar or salt to me

I am young boy who can’t understand why his mother cries why his mother lies or what happens if his mother dies

I am a young boy who has tears fall from his face and the face of his five siblings who began to grasp an understanding of the situation. Father not around mommy using a drug called cocaine with a son name Shane who is trying to get mommy to walk a straight line with no deviation

I am a young boy who longs for his mommy when she would disappear for months at a time with no warning or no sign of return I am a young boy who kept hope that his mommy would return

Years go by and the understanding of the lies built to protect me

I am a young teen who has no friends but his little brother and even though they fought and argued he and his little brothers bond was like no others, even when angry with a vein on the forehead throbbing he and his brother was like batman and robin

I am a young teen who has witnessed a father figure shot up in front of me and my siblings.

I am a young teen who believes he might not live to see twenty a young teen who is not sure how life works but knows it is painful

I am a young teen who was introduced to boy with the last name battle, and for years we battled with a friendship that was rattled and shook but is a long going story somewhat like a book

I am a young man who has made his way through middle school and high school

I am a young man sees a bright future

I am a young black man who is intelligent

I am a young black man who is confident

I am a young black man who is handsome

I am a young black man who is kind

I am a young black man who is loyal

I am a young black man who is compassionate

I am a young black man who is outgoing

I am a young black man who is strong

I am a young black man who is healthy

I am a young black man who is living

I am a young black man who is not a statistic

I am a young black man who is a senior at The Pennsylvania State University

I am a young black man who is going to go far in life

I am a young black man who is making his way through the world

I am a young black man who is Happy
