Road/Block

I saw at the very last moment,

In the firelight and shadow and planetary glow,

Your eyes rolling and your smile dropping

At the suggestino that my life is mine to be lived.

Do you really want to spend your life with a charcoal mess,

Misfiring firecracker, rolling stone, paper-building engineer of crooked stairways,

A two-wheeled nervous breakdown?

This is what you refuse to retract your desperate claws from.

How much more are you going to beg for?

How much more do you expect me to give up, again and again and again,

To feed your false sense of security?

We are speeding in circles, whirling around the sun, hurtling through this bright galaxy

Faster than our minds can comprehend

And I will continue to grow outward, my vines creeping into crevices and couds, spiderwebbing with this vast blessed universe.

I am learning what it means to fight for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,

For enlightened love and satisfied understanding,

And it's hard to say if you're the road or a roadblock,

A branch above my head or a splinter in my palm,

But it doesn't seem worthwhile to be working my chest into a knot

Over your reluctance, fear, and misguided bullshit.
