Roads

I’ve spent the last seventeen years on a road,

I’ve learned the road is rough,

and the road is cold.

I’ve learned to reap what I sow

I’ve learned that the people we meet don’t stay forever,

there’s no such thing as a parallel,

The friends I’ve made I’ve learned to treasure,

I’ve learned to leave the shell,

I’ve learned that the road is forked,

but there’s no way to know which one to take,

I’ve learned there is no turning around.

I’ve learned to commit to the decisions I make.

I’ve learned that the road disappears,

I’ve learned to wander helplessly,

Time brings us back to the path,

I’ve learned to confront my fears,

I’ve learned to walk in tandem with another,

I’ve learned the road is hard to navigate,

when the road turns icy,

I’ve learned to take my time.

All my life I’ve walked this road,

The road is hard and the road is cold,

All I’ve learned is that there’s no way of knowing,

See, I still haven’t learned where it is that I’m going.
