Roads I've Been On

It may seem strange to say that scars keep me alive

That marks etched into a body can make a heart still pump

It is the truth for what I was is what keeps me alive

The roads I've been on only push me on

To deny the past if futile I know what I have done

Jagged tallies on my wrists and shoulders from nights so long ago

I can not live without them now

Every step I take they move with me

And push me further forward

Fueling every step and heart beat
