Role Model
You try to impart your
so-called wisdom
to our poor, innocent souls.
You tell us you've
been in our shoes,
that you know
what wer're going through.
And maybe you do,
to some extent.
But if you really knew us:
what we thought,
how we feel,
what we experience
day to day...
you wouldn't be
standing there
trying to connect with us.
You wouldn't be standing there
trying to tell us how we feel.
And just because
"statistics say
this and that
about kids these days"
doesn't mean that those
numbers
hold any answers
about who
we are.
We may make those
statistics,
and they may be true.
But, when you tell us that
we fit them,
and that all you want is for us
NOT to...
You aren't seeing us.
You're seeing a
number.
And we don't listen to numbers.
We CAN'T listen.
Nobody is trying to make
bad decisions.
Accidents are not
purposeful.
So why stand there, all
pitying
and sympathizing,
coaxing us out of
a situation
that we will never
try to fall
into?
You must think you
are such a good
person.
An absolute
role model.
Yeah, right.
Somebody
who pretends to
understand us,
yet stands up and
says we are doomed
to make horrible and reckless
decisions
is not
a role model.
They are not even
inspiring.
They are a number generator.
You want us to stop rolling
our eyes?
You want us to listen to your
wisdom of salvation?
You want us to prepare for the
worst?
Then look at us,
listen to us,
and you can prepare to
see:
who we really are.
