Romantic Winter

Strolling through downtown on a winter day, I passed a young handsome man smiling away. Looking over our shoulders at the same time, I knew someday he would be mine. Turning around, We begin to approach each other slowly. His eyes glisten like a star in the night sky, making my smile glow like never before. Walking arm in arm, Happiness is spread throughout our souls, Making us believe we are the perfect two. He looks me in my eyes then whispers, “I have a surprise for you.” We saunter down a brick road covered in white snow, Until we reach an outdoor ice-skating rink. James deliberately sweeps me off my feet, twirling me around in his arms. Spontaneously, James delicately kisses my soft hand; Then interlocked his hand with mine. Hoping this could last forever, It came to a point where I found it was only a dream. Months go by... Walking in the park, taking in the aromatic scent of spring flowers, I glance at this man whom seems familiar. Picturing my dream from months ago, could this be James? Briskly walking away, thinking of what to do, he turns me around handing me flowers. The same eyes shining brightly, I smile wide and say this surely isn't a dream.

I really appreciate your comment! I know it will help me become a better writer and I will expand the poem so I do not keep readers hanging. Thanks for your input :)

This poem was difficult to read, as much as it was beautiful. You articulately and cleanly captured the emotive quality of new love, and I love the details given ("a brick road covered in white snow" and "deliberately sweeps me off my feet" in particular). My only suggestion would be to expand upon the ending--I'm left to wonder, what happened? Was James real at all? Great work, and keep writing!
