the roof of clouds
Time moves slower
when you're sailing over a roof of clouds
The lights from the city down below
stretch boundless and shimmer up to the clouds
Making them glow in that iridescent way they do
Eventually you sail higher
and are left with nothing but the dark earth
You can count the stars as they twinkle
and there is only the dark night transmuting into blue
and that fiery stripe of red
That burns at the edge of chaos
Irresistibly ushering in the dawn
And, through it all
across the horizon
There is a small twinkle
A steady beam
that is suddenly obscured by the wing
and it says:
This is a message from God
or some other lesser deity
and that there is hope
