On a Rooftop

Upon the cold grey of Paris I sit, perched, Between that world that bustles and the world that surround it all I perch, unnoticed by a fellow city-gazer Maybe we are kindred spirits Separated by all that Grey The many shades of which Press upon me from all around This starry starry night takes magic from electric light From the many glowing facades Capped by other rooftops like mine Certainly, though, I’m above it all I float On champagne bubbles and cold steel That penetrates my person with tingling shivers Soon this sky will explode: Pink Gold Hot white Backed by the welcoming Grey I think I’ll explode with it Maybe I’ll be Hot passionate white Inspiring oohs and aahs From the people below I love these people I love this country that isn’t mine And above On a rooftop I can pretend for a while
