The Rooftop

Clattering, pounding.

The work of the man on the rooftop

Echoed like a thunder roll and penetrated

My very soul

Never once had I seen him

Yet the man on the rooftop

Had always seen me

Day by day

Masses of teens

The man on the rooftop had seen

To him I was another face, to me?

He was just a sound

Years went by

The man on the rooftop fled my mind

‘Twas long after I left that place

That I saw him again

He saved my life that day,

The man on the rooftop,

and sacrificed himself

So I could see another dawn

Still I did not know he was

The man on the rooftop

From those years before, he was simply

The man I did not know
