Roots
Do we appreciate all that has been given to us?
Knowing it all started in a small town bus.
Why does this new generation complain and fuss?
We've come so far and yet we act superfluous.
Where did we come from?
We need to open our eyes to see what we've become.
Women and me were beaten and treated cruel.
Yet this new generation occasionally acts like fools.
We need to raise above all this tomfoolery,
And take advantage of all that our predecessors died for.
Knowing that they went through so much more,
Life wasn't easy feeling as though they were in war.
Martin Luther King Jr., W.E.B Du Bois, Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali,
These men fought for what they believed was fair.
Did they sag their pants, they wouldn't even dare.
Sojourner Truth, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks,
Did these women wear miniskirts and half top shirts?
Most young folk now a days don't even know what this means,
As they fail to cash in all that life has to redeem.
We need to come together as a team,
And get ourselves together to fulfil our dreams.
