Rose Colored Glasses

Frames of gold that twinkle

Lenses of rose, complement my chubby cheeks.

Through the lenses I see my feet kick the swing.

Higher and Higher, I fly

Testing the chains, I feel free.

Blink

Frames of gold that twinkle

Lenses of rose tighter on my face, for I have grown.

Schools pictures, and family photos show a young girl, no glasses she wears.

Scratched, bent from years of adventures. But still I wear them

They comfort me.

Blink

Frames of gold that twinkle

Lenses of rose, so small the world seems two toned.

A baby of beauty smiles back, but her life is different.

She sees the world so differently, and the world treats her poor.

The rose-colored glasses, broken, and worn,

leave the world in a tarnished hue.

Blink

Frames of gold no longer twinkle

Lenses of rose, distorted and damaged

On the desk they sit, memories they bring.

Comfort they no longer give.

The glasses of gold and rose showed me

Life isn’t always what it seems.

Blink.
