Roy IV

Laid back with phone in hand

and cup on coffee table

you sit and you think

take a sip and then get another drink

But as your daughter I want to know

what is it you think about?

is it how you concentrate on the negative

because of past experiences with your relatives

or how you had kids in the prime of your life

and settled down with your wife

With your round nose and full lips and

a thick black snake rushing from your

upper lip to bottom chin

from your hazelnut eyes

to your cheeky smile

I wonder, what made you have kids again

was it to see us grin or learn from our sin

I also wonder, are you even proud of me

because i’m way to blind to see

that everything you’ve ever done

is to shape me into me

So now I apologize

for being so caught in mothers eyes

that I failed to realize

you’ve done everything for me

Do you know you’re a great dad

No matter how sad or mad you get

and even though you get upset

I will never forget

how you taught me the alphabet

Roy IV you’re everything to me

thanks for being the best dad

You can be
