Rubber Band Ball

who am I?

what a daunting question to answer.

put simply, I am a girl with an old soul

trapped in a cage called 2015

feeling around blindly for sparks of inspiration

in the corners or behind

the false exteriors society chooses to reveal

to me

I have the blood of my Italian ancestors who battled poverty and dwelled

in a one room house

six siblings who shared one bed

I am the daughter of opposite parents, day and night

I am the older sister of my brother, serving as his role model

I love them all to pieces,

but who am I?

I am the adjectives bombarding my brain when I hear you speak

I am the wings of the words fluttering around in my mind when I write stories

I am the quotes on my bulletin board from my favorite books and movies

I am the sweet summer air and the soft grass beneath my bare feet

I am the unceasing belly laughs shared with my best friends

I am a smile illuminating a room

I am one thousand things at once,

my aquaintances and relationships

triumphs and downfalls

tragedies and celebrations.

The memories,

simple yet so complex,

all intertwine to form

the colorful rubber band ball

that is my life.

Who are you?
