The Rules of Me

My cat comes first. Always. She’s been my best friend since second grade.
So yes, she will lay down with us and it’s okay
because I have a feeling she won’t be around much longer.
If I trust you enough to tell you of my past,
have confidence in me that I won’t resort back to those demons.
So if I skip a meal or don’t talk for a few hours
and I look like I’m far away
believe that I’ll come back.
Just take me out for ice cream, hold my hand, and keep repeating,
"It will be okay"
And for the panic attacks
just hold me and calm me down.
They’ll go away.
I don’t always match at home.
I wear oversized sweaters and warm socks with Christmas designs
and I’ll probably steal your clothes. (I like your hoodies and cardigans)
But when we go out, I’ll put myself together to the best of my ability.
And while I get ready, I will have a dance party in the bathroom
and if you want to join, background dancers are welcome
You have to come to my plays
You don’t have to bring a bouquet of flowers every time
A single flower will do just fine
And I’ll come support you. And if you want a single flower,
well that’s a little weird, but I’ll do it.
Drinking isn’t important to me. So I hope it isn’t to you either.
I only say “I love you” if I absolutely mean it.
But there are thousands of other ways I express it.
So if I call you an idiot, that’s a compliment.
Ya idiot.
