Rummages into the Past
What will become of you and me, when our smiles and laughs
disappear from the corners of later minds?
What will become of our tales and stories,
that only we can share?
How long will our inside jokes whirl in our minds?
Will they be found again in the recesses of the abyss?
Will anyone remember for us?
Still sometimes I surrender to past enigmas,
to brood and relish simpler times.
For they will never return except in the sanctuaries of memory.
And one day the sanctuary will break,
and all those days will scurry away into the void, never to be found again.
I will not remember you, and time will not remember me.
But I can still rest easy as I know that I once smiled with someone during a warm spring day.
