Runaways

You see her with sun on her face and she smiles up at the sky

She catches your eye

A sly grin pricks at the corners of her full lips

Pack a bag and laugh while the stereo fills the empty space

A key is kissed and a rabbit’s foot is thrown into the ignition

Tight skin and warm weather makes the days slip away like smoke

Ten thousand miles of untouched lands and plaid blankets carelessly laid atop them

Glittering waters of an off-putting lake cause goosebumps

“It could be the sea” she screams at the stars

Twinkling voices bounce off the translucent moon as the city wolves howl

The future is so far

So you drift into her heartbeat covered in oil colored skin

You inhale the soft smell of soap pulling at you from her dark hair

Never go home

It’s much less fun.
