Running

Joy. Sorrow. Relief. Longing. And pride.
Those are the emotions
Joy – straight from the experience
Sorrow – From the coming end
Relief – It will soon be over
Longing – I’m not done yet
Pride – Who else can match me?

But, emotions aren’t the only thing you feel
What about the taste, the touch, the sight, the smell?

The taste of…
Salt and copper
From all the hard work and sweat

The smell of…
Pine and oak and dew and dirt
And the smells of nature all around

The touch, the feel
I was cutting through the wind
With its little fingers running through my mane-like hair
And the hard ground striking up at my feet

But most of all, the sights

The bright green ground
And the dark dull earth
The shaking trees
All the runners
The finish line
The light blue sky with the
White plumes of wispy clouds
And the unseeable sun

It wasn’t just the feelings
But the memories
The sweet memory of success
With the bitter after taste of room still to grow

And the lives I touch,
Forever altering

Running, the thing I can’t live without.
