Running

Whenever I find you

I give you my softest hello.

I do my best to not spook you.

Sometimes it works, other times you turn, wide eyed.

Often you give me room to pass

While offering a distant smile.

Other days you glare, or ignore me completely.

A couple times, you’ve tried to run from me.

It’s more for your mindset than anything else.

Not as often, you call after me.

Telling me things I don’t want or need to hear.

I’ve seen you pretend to be on the phone, just to avoid having an interaction with me.

When it’s sunny out, you’re more approachable.

As you give me room to pass, it’s an honest smile you share.

When it rains, you grin from ear to ear.

You might even say hello, or stop to talk.

You like the rain too.

I live for the days of your genuine smiles, for that fleeting feeling of true connection.

Each time I hand you my soft hello, it’s true inspiration I’m searching for.
