Running on Hope

I can almost taste the sunshine

I can barely kiss the air

I can nearly feel the sand on my feet

As the wind blows through my hair

As I cruise this winding highway

This never-ending street

I can scarcely see the sunset

Through the closed eyes of defeat.

This stage of rolling thunder

Another jagged lightening blow,

These storms and foreboding rainclouds

Are just the curtains before the show.

Then the deafening thunder

Stabs me one more time

Though somewhere past the horizon

Lies a soft memory of mine.

Glittering pine tree raindrops

And threatening coiled snakes

Past the twisted lane of suspicion

Across flawlessly frozen lakes.
