Rusty Cage

24 years... 24 years spent watching the sun set through obscured vision These bars ain't getting no prettier I've been walking Well Pacing this tight area Imagining I've been traveling But in truth, I ain't been nowhere I'm scared I've seen what they do to people like me Bruised and battered don't look that good on me So I've chosen to remain here But now It's getting a little harder to ignore one fact I am wasting away Day in and day out I sit wondering what my life is about Where I'm going If I'm even going Looking back at where I haven't been with sad eyes But I won't cry I often hear people asking "why" I hide These same people are the reason yet remain unaware Yet I haven't the courage to give them an answer Instead I give them what they give me A question Why do you think? When you wake up to smiling faces everyday With hatred in their heart and pity on their tongues When you listen to hate messages once a week dressed up in paraphrased religion Why do you think? For what reason would I so willingly walk into the light where you can see this target on my back that I've been trying to hide? Tell me for what reason would I share with you my most controlling of secrets When you whisper under your breath to me about someone just like me? See they juswannalive too But this ignorance of yours must be legendary bliss Because you hug and kiss the very thing you dismiss when you see me And I'm not sure if you have dismissed that denial I have been living off all these years But I imagine it must gnaw at you at night "What's done in the dark must come to the light" But I find that same light ain't much more than that pyre you have built for me to jump into And even that sits in the middle of a dark room So my final question to you is... Who will come for you once my issues are done being aired out?
