Ruth and Sam (After the Bar)

Your lips met mine for a second

And of course, that second lasted for forever

Because who on earth has the time

To live for more

After you’ve tasted something better

I saw you put down your cigarette

Your ashes floated into the pit

Cast your weaknesses into darkness

I’m the flame that came and lit

Tried to hide it in conversation

Even with the maps

It came out of nowhere,

I burst out, “I think I’m in love with you…”

You told him to get lost somewhere

Said I’m a train wreck

Your vocal chords restless

Your lips must have pressed this

Because they’re meeting mine

Like the greatest hits

Playing that song in the cold,

Dark and deep and freezing,

We don’t care if we’re mold

Just repeating, repeating

Because when your lips met mine

For a second,

Of course, it lasted for forever,

Don’t force, just lend me your jacket

And I’d kiss you in any weather

I’d kiss you in any weather
