Sad Truth
Many stories have been told over the ages,
in which monsters and creatures haunt the night,
but where have these horrid beings originated?
Why do we portray this fright?
In modern day we here of these tales,
but the monsters and creatures we hear of are very real,
Fact and Fiction blend together,
the fickle line between the two is not made of steel,
The sad truth is that these beings came from somewhere,
Here on Earth where we dream,
living amongst the true beasts,
we face beings worse than any imagination can scream.
Human beings.
Set free monsters in these books,
we create the sad and the darkness in this world,
based off war, murderers, rapists, and crooks.
Humans are the scariest beings of all,
But we can't help the way we are,
we are only ants
in a planet that stretches long and far.
Humans may seem complex but we are very simple,
we stand and unite,
"gnawing at the near foreleg of his enemy,"
driven only by instinct and the force of our might.
See, ants are more like us than most think.
In a vast and industrial world, we are blind,
we are only as significant as these insects.
Uniform in a body and mind.
Ants create a little world.
Where there is a queen with workers of her own,
all conform to their destined roles.
A community much like our society is shown.
Deny all you want,
but this is yet another sad truth
that most follow and not lead,
that we conform to everything starting in our youth.
We conform to ourselves, to expectations, and more,
Only few have been able to free themselves and fight.
A chore we have been tasked with all our life
but we never stray or veer from the light.
We do fight however,
probably more brutal than the ants in many ways
people can be sick creatures
yet this we praise.
"Exposing what vitals he had there,"
humans inspire a certain ferocity for which the soldiers chant
"such as war only could excite."
A quote fit for an ant.
But it is best used describing people,
modern society has only been a facade.
We hide behind knowledge and other pretenses,
each and every one of us is a fraud.
On a daily basis we hide our true instincts,
we are beasts inside
straining to see the light of day,
greedy for power and driven by pride.
What wars have we fought based purely on survival?
None recently I can remember.
We do not kill out of necessity as the ants,
but instead to sustain a hunger.
A hunger like no other
that feeds off blood and battle
whether it involves emotional or physical tears,
it is all the same prattle.
This new society likes to think we have developed
into greater and bigger things so to say.
But what is great about this thirst---
that has only caused society to further decay.
Like ants, we act as if we are mindless,
We rise in buildings but decline in moral standard,
Forget the feelings of others to further yourself
other's emotions will only leave you stranded.
Our instinct is to think only with our mind,
to help ourselves above others
Humans are simple, selfish creatures,
going against all manners taught by our mothers.
"Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity..."
Thoreau once said.
But Humans are already of the most basic of things that roam
What more can be talked about, land of the living or dead?
So basic pretending to be complex,
Take away all barriers and what do you see?
All are born the same on earth
I see men, women, children, and me.
We may have evolved differently from ants
but from cave man to modern man there is a constant sad truth;
that we have stayed animalistic in our ways
never free of monsters locked inside, this is sooth.
