Sadie

The day I realized we’d never be the same

Was the day my heart broke

From the terror of change and a love lost.

I can still feel the teardrop scars.

I tried to freeze the pieces of

Our sweet memories

Like cherry pie ~

Save it for a rainy day.

And just as the angels drenched us in their tears,

My tears drenched old photographs.

The truth is, sometimes

I still drive by your old house

And sit there, staring

Willing the clock to work backwards

And you to walk out that door.

Though now it’s all different,

It’s okay. Things change.

Though sometimes my freezer-burned

Cherry pie tastes bitter,

I have no regrets from

The golden years that ring

With sweet laughter.

I’ve never known or loved anyone

As deep as I knew and loved you…

And I probably never will again.

The pain that I gave you in trying to ease it

Was my mistake and my only regret --

And that I let you slip away with time and distance.

But I’ll always remember you as the dark girl

Of neverending sorrow and knives

Who left teardrop scars on my heart.
