Sadness is a Swamp

Sadness is a swamp.

It pulls you in,

Chilling and yet sparks questioning.

It is dark, and you may become lost.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel today

Despair begins to slowly creep into your heart,

The fingers of hopelessness grip you tight.

This swamp is dirty,

But so are you.

Maybe you begin to cry, asking yourself

“Why did this happen?”

And then maybe you remember,

And you start to regret.

What happened is a distant memory, a dismal one.

You start to feel lonely,

It’s loud silence, ringing,

Grim reminders haunting a disturbed repose.

Like a cut that’s infected, the unkind atmosphere is heavy on your heart

Sapping the happiness from its weakening beat

Bleeding out, your veins run dry; the silence is suffocating now

Desolate and weary, you fall to your knees and pray for rescue.
