The Sadness Within

We all struggle to fit in To be a part of the crowd And even though sadness can’t be heard Its effects still ring loud Sadness has no war cry And rarely lays out clues So you can’t feel it sneak up on you To leave you with the blues You see sadness takes its time While slowly destroying you and me It commits the perfect crime And moves on gleefully Sadness plays no favorites It targets us all Sadness loves to overcome the mighty And cause them to fall You see sadness plays a role In the lives of so many And it plays its role well Only letting a few survive, if any It breaks us all down Making us feel like hell And when everything’s said and done It leaves nothing behind but an empty shell
