safe flight
clouds are keeping us afloat
or it seems so to me,
we are light, we are air
we are three
sister, mother and daughter
in flight, in love, in conversation
peanuts in a little foil bag
glances and nods and smiles
we share
we laugh
we are silently companionable
slightly less than fashionable
(at least sister and mother are)
daughter is beautiful
and we rest our eyes on her gentle face
we see ourselves in her sincere gaze
we talk
sister, mother and daughter
heaven is in these clouds with us
and we feel grandmother near us
long forgotten and little acknowledged wounds heal
just being in their company
we sigh
sister, mother and daughter
as our fellow travelers bustle
and hustle back to their seats
matching hands,
promises of walks to come
a book to read
life renews and ignites
home is discovered and mapped inside of me
life whispers, "welcome back, sister"
as we begin our descent
seatbelts buckled,
chairs upright
a safe flight
sister, mother and daughter
return
