Sail Alone

However lonely

Only is non-existent

You are not yet an island

You are not yet in silence

Nor will you become a blank moon

Keep your eyes hoisted above the frames

Do wander tonight without a name

Do cross crooked trails

And wait for a desperate cry when boats sail

And sail alone

But sail for someone

Or do not journey at all

For why do you call

Only to the sky at the break of dawn or day

For why to him do you request

Only with callous hands and a night’s pay

Why do you not ask these questions aloud

And for the person who may answer alarms sound

And you will learn you were never alone

Who will hear and who will turn

Away?
