Sailing the Sea of Only Memories

We used to spend the days in a haze

      of bliss

unaware, didn’t care, about the times we’d miss

together every day, time would fly

protected by my daddy, the captain

      We’d search like pirates

      for antiques, our survival

      he taught me everything

wanted nothing but patience in return

      I didn’t care, happiest child

Today we are only bound by our name

    new wife, new priorities

    our relationship has changed

used to treat me like a queen

    always willing to assist

now you treat me like I barely exist

Forget that I too want time

instead shoe me away, give me dimes

  I do care, loneliest child
