A Sailors Return "Home"
I wake up in the morning
Paint a smile on my face
Go on about my day
As though nothing is out of place
But I can't seem to shake this feeling
That I'm just no longer me
It's like a chain has been clamped to my heart
And there's no way to set it free
I wish I could explain it
But you couldn't understand
Because it's not about what I lost
But what I'll never know again
You see, they don't ever tell you
The true price you pay
They don't even tell you
Your life will never be the same
Because the girl you said goodbye to
Somehow died that day
She vanished without a trace
And made me take her place
So this girl who stands before you
Doesn't feel she knows you
I know it makes you sad
Considering the amazing times we've had
But those are just distance memories
And all that's left is me
The daughter you once knew and loved
The daughter I can't be
I know I just came back
But I already have to leave
Because I can't go on pretending
I'm who you want me to be
I'm a stranger in your home and this family
I wish it could be different
But it's truly what is best for me
If you really love me you will set me free
I promise I'll return
When this home is once again home to me
