Saint's Oasis

Walking in this endlessly barren field,

Razed and salted, devoid of all life.

A knife in my left hand, a colt in my right, ready to end it all.

A figure appears, familiar and yet new to me,

Shining like a golden saint, beauty defined,

Trembling, I realize – I’ve found all that I’ve longed for

Shouting an ABOUT – FACE I sprint,

Refusing to confront the nature of my humanity,

Eventually reaching a forgotten oasis of life

Defying the very nature of my soul’s desert,

Shining with the hope that I’ve long lost,

A pond that shouldn’t exist, yet does.

Bemusingly staring into it, a reflection appears;

A husk, devoid of all life, with no soul or heart,

Glares at me through the pristine and still water.

Realizing all that I’ve become, all that I am, I raise my hand:

Ending all that I am, killing all that I’ve been,

I once again rise as a new person, a new existence

Looking back at this apparent saint,

I realize my humanity, I’m more than I thought,

Accepting that I’m finally capable of love again.

Her feet touch the ground so gently, so she can be no saint;

Even still, the beauty she emits is unparalleled to any person,

A work of art that I long to call my own.

She’s the embodiment of everything I’ve ever wanted:

No – even more, she’s everything that I’ve ever needed!

Unbelievably, she’s always been right beside me, yet aeons away.

That tender way she puts others first, caring not for herself,

How she looks at me and calls me out when I’m being stupid,

The smell of pumpkin spice, the annoyingly sweet aroma always following her closely

The mystery of how she enraptures my soul with just “Hello”,

Simultaneously locking my heart and soul in a cage just for you,

While also making them run out on a free range, more liberated than ever

Your A-Bomb has hit my soul, shattering my being,

Causing this devious process of falling in love to devour my soul, all that I am,

And yet I will not resist it – for all I want today, and all I want tomorrow, is to embrace you gently.
