Sammy's Birthday Poem
I don’t know how age works in heaven,
But you would be three today,
I want to write you a poem,
But I don’t know what to say,
The poem would speak of joy and sorrow,
And how much it hurts to wait to see you,
Until we finally reach tomorrow,
It would speak of all the hurts,
And aches we have inside,
Of how, though it feels like forever,
We’ll meet on the other side,
It would talk of how we could laugh,
Even on days we cried,
And of how God gives us joy,
Even in harder times,
Though it is hard to see God’s plan,
Through a haze of tears,
It helps to know you are held in His hand,
Safe, loved and secure,
Though I have many more things to say,
Time is sliding from my grasp,
When it comes to words which remain unsaid,
I will have to hope that they last.
