Sanctuary
Dark and dismal,
living in a cold shell of life that is existence,
full of lies, secrets, and empty promises. No recollection of a past and no future.
Hopeless.
Terrified of the unknown, yet lost, slowly fading more and more everyday, slipping from reality.
Problems become nothing but scars, and empty bottles.
Wishing every breath was the last.
Scared.
Alone, thinking no one will ever understand.
Breathing in a black hole, suffocating to just let go.
Trust no one.
A fake smile has become a way of life.
The tear soaked pillows carry the nightmares of a childhood and the worries of tomorrow.
Just want to be normal.
Forced to grow up way to fast, yet still too young to ever understand.
Wanting any other life than this one
So many built up feelings, for such a long time
Then a pen met a palm.
A small vision of hope began to arise through the once shadowy bleak life that was once lived.
Paragraphs instead of bottles. Sentences instead of scars
Every word fills the once meek pages. All burdens are lifted
Poetry.
A reason to live.
No longer trapped in the façade of that cheerful, misunderstood girl
Finally free
At last given the chance to have no worries, to feel normal, to feel accepted.
Dried tears wrinkle every corner of the paper.
Overwhelming emotion pours onto the paper, revealing once hidden demons,
The one thing that can be trusted, the one place that feels safe
Once too terrified to even talk, has now been replaced with the courage to speak freely.
No judgment.
No more hiding.
Poetry.
No longer a just another cold terrified soul walking this earth.
It is a second chance.
No longer taking life for granted, seeing that there is more out there to experience.
The hope for a better tomorrow.
The strength to do anything, and be anyone
The future that has only been dreamed about.
Simple words that exude so much feeling
Poetry.
Saved my life.
