Sand Castles
SAND CASTLES
The beach is a wonderful place
Boys go for the girls
Girls go for the tan
Adults go for the kids
Kids go to frollic and play
Me, I've always been a sand castler
Theres something about the sand
And the way it can be molded
Details don't matter
Plans don't matter
Just get down and start building
Sometimes people pass by to watch
Applauding your effort
Admiring your creation
And eventually moving on to their duties
Leaving you with a profound sense of pride
And of course the excitement of the tide
At first seeming so far away
Soon overrunning your mote
As you dig escape canals
Frantically trying to save the castle
Soon the canal is gone
Your castle barely standing
A shadow of it's former glory
You accept defeat
And wait for the water to eat whats left
It was about this time the sun was setting
I sit behind my warped creation
And for the first time look up from the castle
To see a beautiful array of orange and red
And for some reason I feel sad
I realize I'm sad that the day is over
That the tides bested me
Or rather that I couldn't best the tides
But who can with a simple castle made of sand
I did the best I could
Which was pretty damn good
Then I think...
What if my castle did stay forever?
What if I was constantly building and protecting it?
I soon realize how amazing that sadness is
To realize your sand castle is disappearing
And reminisce of fun times during the construction
Until you finally look up
And watch your first sunset
I stand in the tide
No longer fearing the water
But embracing the tingling coldness
Feeling as if it would take me in
Into it's inconcievably infinite sea
I outlasted my sand castle
But soon the tides will take me in as well
Only to be another grain of sand
But I thank it for that gift
Because nothing made me feel more human
Than watching that sunset
All Pictures and videos are my personal ones
