Sandcastles and moats

So many want to leave an imprint in the sand,

To be the mark people remember.

Long after the fire of their life is out,

They leave many burning embers.

But what if from our place on the beach,

We can’t see all there is,

What if we assume all that matters is in view,

There will be things we miss.

We see the sculptures and sand castles,

We worship their kings and queens,

We think only they are important, matter,

But what about the moats and ravines?

Without them all the sculptures would get hit by waves,

The castles would be unprotected,

The lows are as needed as the highs,

But on our beach, only one is respected.

The beach needs great imprints,

Both the above and below the ground

So maybe it’s time we change our perspective,

Raise it up, so we can look down,

Appreciate all that is effective.
