For Sandy Hook

Our hearts beat of sadness Our lungs breathe in pain I’m sorry I never met you But at least now I know your name I know what family to pray for I know the town torn We all know your story Our lives are still morning yours The ballerina, the soccer star, the biggest Giants fan Your mother bless her soul can never again hold your hand Wipe your tears, give you hope, watch you grow up or grow old No matter how hard your parents tried this cruel world made them let you go Now we feel it with them the gnawing numbing pain But be still dear child one day we’ll see your face again In every sunrise, blue sky, every photo with your smile We promise not to forget all that your life brought The feeling of hope joy and no known fears The breathe of anticipation knowing you’ll graduate in some amount of years You graduated early your tassel already turned Leaving a deeper mark on humanity than most have in 100 years We’ll never forget your story We’ll never forget your face Please know that we’ll change this world To make it worthy of ever knowing your name
