Satin

This dress slips off my frame,

the satin pooling at my feet.

I will myself

to take that first step.

Free,

I am free from all that binds me.

This second skin has slipped and

so have my fears.

I sprint away,

only to find I've moved but one step.

Exhaustion overwhelms me.

Isn't letting go supposed to be easy?

Severing ties becomes difficult

When you realize that

You need to stay on the ground.

So I slip this satin dress back on.
