Satisfied Craving
Bullying for me started in fifth grade,
Walking the hallways feeling inferior with my head hung low,
Silently searching for someone to come to my aid,
But her words seemed to cut deep with every blow.
Night after night I replayed the dagger like words in my head,
“You’re ugly”, “You have no game”, “You’re two-faced”,
I began to believe these words, as I would lie in bed,
Too naïve to realize that these lies were boldfaced.
It became harder and harder to fight this endless battle,
I prayed religiously hoping that it would make this challenge cease,
Because I knew my faith was where I needed to seek council,
Because then I would have finally found my peace.
This whole situation was making me tired,
Tired of being depressed. Tired of being sad. Tired of being the victim.
That feeling of courage is what I most desired,
Not willing to play the fool in her twisted system.
I woke up one morning ready to take back my voice,
Walking with my head to the sky and a face full of confidence,
Feeling liberated to speak up without feeling I had no choice,
Because I knew this was the start of me taking back my dominance.
She approached me with her sword like words ready to strike again,
But there was no white flag I had to wave,
For this is where I put an end to her tyrannous reign,
Because speaking up for myself was something I craved.
