Save Me
Take to this a dying flame
Add oxygen and it comes alive again
Like the past calling for recognition
A hand reaches up pleading the same old tell
Save me and you’ll be let free of hunger
Yet deep in your stomach a title wave of anguish drones on.
The craving is so strong
You wish just to take it to the heart.
An inhalation of toxins to ease away the stress
Your addiction to nicotine sullied,
It begged, Save me! And I’ll be with you forever
Each time you pay for gas
Your hand aches to handover smooth skin and easy breathing.
For a pack of smokes
Five bucks a day spent on giving away your healthy gums.
Because a cigarette screamed at you one day, Save me! You need me
A loved one who refuses to stick around you
They prefer to smell free of the cancerous sticks you cram in your mouth.
They see that not only did you give away being healthy but you relinquished part of your freedom
Now you look at your yellowed finger tipped hands as you give the cashier the last of your money.
And you pray this pack will not go so fast and you pray to god, “save me from my addiction”
Lighter up cigarette poised a horror show begins to replay a puff at a time.
