Save Me From My Nightmares
The middle of the night pain is different, the pain that you feel waking up from a silence shattering scream in a nightmare that felt so real your lungs feel like they might explode and your eyes burn from trying to hold back tears you didn't consciously realize were building up until you felt the fire starting behind your eyelids. The ache in your head, a pressure so intense you feel your brain close to exploding. The pit of your stomach is full of rocks and monsters. Your throat is dry and the sound of your rasping cries you attempt to keep silent is the only thing you can hear over the blood rushing in your ears , it's the only thing that let's you know that you are actually alive, that while struggling you are still somehow managing to take in the breaths that you can't seem to catch. You hands shake and your hair is a mess and you keep pulling on your clothes while pulling the blankets closer because even the paper thin shirt and shorts you fell asleep in feels like it's suffocating you but the blankets are the only protection from the dark around you. It's terrifying to real and tangible fear a physical reaction that your body has to subconscious induced fear that shows up in your sleeping mind for no apparent reason. Leaving behind a horrific memory and moment in your life that won't be soon forgotten no matter how many peaceful dreams follow once you finally convince your body that you need to sleep again.
