Say "Hi"

I feel red. Do you feel it?

the buzzing in your head when you stand near him

and all of the sudden, words you've said

and want to say melt like sugar from your memory.

It leaves you with a puddle of things unsaid

and emotions who bubble and burst before you can express them.

There you stand with your lust in your hand and  longing on your face.

But you lack the skill and maybe the will to risk handing them off.

You keep them instead. bottle them up in your head;

you're building a collection of failed attemts and awkward molments.

And you can't even vent

That would mean admitting you've spent

days, minutes, hours thinking about him

and you're not even friends; you're barely aquainted

And yet for the last hour you've waited

-heart tight, breath bated-

for the chance to look him in the eye,

prove with your body that you don't care,

which is a lie

And squeeze out that single burning sylable: "Hi"
