Saying Good-bye

I saw a bird fall from the nest

I cried out in terror.

I ran to it to try and save him

he looked at me and he said,

"I only fell once

And I'll fall once again

For I know I must learn

And must never forget

If I want to fly

I have to say good-bye

But I've learned I'm not ready yet."

The next day he fell from the nest yet again.

And he did this each day until the hot summer

when he finally flew away.

He said it wasn't his wings that kept them there,

It was his want to say good-bye to the mother

that saved his life each day.
