Saying Hello Again

How do I pour the words from my heart, drenched with the sap of my own compassion,

Into this bittersweet silence?

For weeks I've been commanding myself

To take steps further and further away, each a mile backward.

Trying to smudge the footprints that lead to you,

Trying to erase that journey from my mind.

But I didn't walk in sand, but in concrete.

The steps are still there;

I can still follow,

But I have been living on the fault line of my earthquake heart

My tornado soul

I am walking on shaking ground

So instead I simply stand

Because I do not know which way to turn.
