Scarecrow
You give the best hugs
I’m dwelling on this, I know-
But you manage to encapsulate what love means
And I hate that I’m so hesitant
I want nothing more than to lift you up and embrace you a while
But I suppose that’s just not in my nature-
It’s certainly in yours and I commend you for that
You’re like a son, a brother, a husband, a lover
And none of the awfulness or commitment of any
I know it’s dumb and selfish but I wish you were staying longer
So you could hold down the fort while I was away
And I could return and you’d be there and I’d know that all was well with my old home
Since after all, you are my scarecrow
But I have this year to know you’re safe and sound
You’re destined for glory, I know it
And I’m honored by the thought that you might perhaps remember me
