The Scarlet Letter: A Sonnet

Poor Hester and Reverend Dimmesdale

Have committed a sin together

That will stay with them forever

Which must be kept secret to avoid jail.

They must feel the wrath of Chillingworth

Who tortures Dimmesdale every day

Which is driving him insane

Will they ever escape this curse?

Fortunately there’s chance to escape

By running off to the old world

Hopefully they don’t drown

However, Dimmesdale’s feelings he can no longer take

And falls over at the feet of Pearl

And dies in front of the town.
