Scars

Painted white on a canvas of skin,

Just noticeable through the sleeve,

A single tear in the human flesh,

With which I want to grieve.

It tells a story of bloodshed and tears,

A mother weeping at her dying child,

But also shares a great rejoice,

When told of the child's survival.

I look upon it every day,

A symbol of regret yet hope,

For even though my days may be bad,

With my world, I can elope.

It motivates me to survive,

Even when I want to give up,

And I know that when I need to stand,

I won't have trouble getting up.
