Scars, Stars, and Storms
You told that there was nothing wrong
With the scars that I bare
But that there was a problem with
Them keeping me back
You told me about all the stars you saw
When we would laugh
The sky would seem to be darker
Because of the stars we had
You told me that the mirrors always lie
They tell us what to think
That they show us the worst of us
They don't show what you see
You told me that the rain falls
Down just for me
That when it touches my skin
It says “you’re still here”
You told me that I was down to earth,
That I wondered about the sky
You told me that I was brighter than any star
That I made others grow
You told me what I could do
Rather what I can’t
Thank you my captain, my teacher, my mentor
Thank you for believing in me.
