School
"Please forgive my grammar;
My literature ain't up to par
Because I took the summer off
I can't seem to form my thoughts as well as I'd like.
I've never been too great at math;
The numbers don't quite match my thoughts
As I scratch them down on paper-
I only ever put letters in words.
Science doesn't need explanation
It happens, fine, I have no care why,
No desire to solve, why when a ball is thrown up,
It falls back to me, or how the molecules make it solid.
Music? Eh, the better of the few.
To feel the beat and play the notes
The real simple math and memorization
That teases the psychology of the brain.
Learning a foreign language seems to fascinate me,
As nosy as it is to eavesdrop on the conversations
Of strangers, but all the tedious
Repetition Repetition messes messes with me.
Politics and governments and economics and history
Are of no interest to me at all.
Why the world works the way it does, is in one ear and out the other and over my free-spirited head."
" So what do I like to learn?" A professor tends to ask,
For all the subjects to be taught in school have everything to do with those I listed as what I don't.
It's impossible to skip the subject important to graduate.
To walk the stage in cap and gown
To hear your name announced for your achievements
You cried more tears of anger over than those of joy you're crying now.
And as my teacher asks me this I sneak peak at my cell
To see a text from my handsome companion
Wondering how my days been going
And to tell me his homework is too heavy for our chats.
And he tells me he loves me, and is back on the same route I am, Just at a different pace,
More homework to get to a real job to do real work work work work.
But those are the things I wonder about, the things I want to learn.
But most of all why?
I've learned more with him than any school.
Why shove work in our faces we only dread
When it obviously doesn't help us so we cheat instead, and
Just to try and pass
And forget it after that?
He don't care about my grammar
Neither of us into Shakespeare
I spent my summer with the one that
Makes words impossible to form.
It doesn't take a genius to know that
One plus one is two.
But if he's the one, and my other half, and we both say the same, shouldn't we equal three?
It's obvious there's chemistry,
But there's no need to know that
Earth's acceleration is equal to -9.81m/s^2
When I've fallen for him much faster.
Although music I seem to hear quite often when
I hear the lyrics on the radio that make me think of him, but the notes only make me feel like
I'm in his world, not on black and white paper.
No other language can describe my feelings,
Even when it melted my heart to hear it said in German,
While I still try to say the same for him
In my new language I'm attempting to learn.
It's as if I have more history with him than
All that in those books, with
No debates like politicians,
Because we love each other more, and war is not an option.
As the mentor still stares me in the face
Waiting for my answer
So does his text message
Like it's a fight between importance.
"But isn't it obvious?
He's my only interest.
The only reason I 'need' this junk is to
Support our future.
So I can write him fancy love letters
Or calculate our budget,
To use science to explain why my cookies taste so good,
For deciding on the perfect song for the wedding night,
To have our own language of inside jokes,
And to remember how to keep track of dates of important events on our timeline."
"Since you can't seem to come up with a logical answer,
Take a night to think it over and write it down if you must,
So I know how to teach you the stuff you need to know.
Wouldn't want you to fall behind."
So I read this answer over again,
Hoping that reading it will help with comprehension.
That the work I really put all my effort in gets a decent grade, when the points won't matter years from now.
I turn it into the tray, walking away,
Sitting at my desk and daydream of him again
Because hey, I don't need this stuff anyways
As long as I know everything about him and us.
