School

A B C D

Those were the first things

That were taught to me

In elementary school I was taught

How to read and write

But my handwriting made it so

Teachers never knew if I was right

As I passed on through school

I discovered what I enjoyed

And knew what subjects I’m good at

And which ones to avoid

The classes I did like

Were math and science

I mastered the times table

Which I have a constant reliance

But the other classes

Like english and history

Were hard for me to complete

Because the answer was a mystery

To me analyzing a book

And writing an essay

Was something my skill level

Would never get better than “okay”

Every morning I wake up

And eat a big bowl of cereal

Then go to school and hopefully

Learn some new material

In the future I want to be an engineer

So I won’t be using history, literature, and such

So why am I required to take classes

That won’t be useful very much

On the other hand there are students

Who like other things and majors

But right now we all have the same classes and

We all appear like the same teenagers

Why should I be reading random books

And analyzing Tale of Two Cities

When I really want to be learning how

To build bridges and cities

Yes, the mitochondria is

The powerhouse of the cell

But figuring out taxes and

Buying a house doesn’t ring a bell

Do I think school is stupid

No you have me wrong

But I think the current education

System just doesn’t belong
